Chromazone

Chromazone is an experiential space and dispensary for contraceptives and hormone therapy that draws upon the history of women’s empowerment and access to reproductive health.

Our reproductive rights are under attack from misinformation, misconceptions, stigma and oppressive behavior from our government.

Access to reproductive freedom is a human right.

We deserve a place to learn, communicate, grow, heal, speak out, empower & take control.

By giving women and the LGBTQ+ community a space dedicated to reproductive rights, information and community.

Oral contraceptions and hormones are about reclaiming control over our bodies. Chromazone promotes empowerment through control of their bodies and therefore, their futures.

The creative direction of Chromazone was chosen through the lens of lasting spaces and typically male architecture, sacred spaces, & text.

The goal being to re-brand these spaces as dominant female structures by usurping them for an oral contraceptive & hormone dispensary.

Narrative

A monolithic structure juts out into the public sidewalk creating a cave-like entrance while encased with mesmerizing gradient screens. The screen displays a rolling gradient when not in use for an event. The main space is used as a communal lounge or meditation space when not activated by an event.

Utilizing the digital age, Chromazone links to the user’s phone allowing the user to pick up their medication as quickly or as leisurely as possible.

The pick up system mirrors the amazon locker model with a check in and a time till pick up with a locker number. When a locker is filled it lights up with a color from the gradient which is mirrored on the app.

The counseling rooms are tucked into the inner sanctum creating a womb like space. Backing up both the counseling rooms and the pharmacy to the zen garden allows both, usually interior, spaces access to the outdoors.

When the user picks up their oral contraception or hormones they symbolically pull the light and empowerment of the space with them as they take their control over their bodies and lives.

Chromazone caters to different levels of privacy. The street facing screen interacts with the exterior community, the inner screen interacts with the interior community (Chromazone’s users), the inner sanctum creates a space for private conversations, and the lockers for prescriptions foster personal interaction. All of these layers interact with the  monolithic and sacred space architecture as well as a feature of light.
